Untuk yang sering beli jamu gendongnya mbok jamu, tentu tidak asing lagi dengan jamu godokan sambiloto, disamping jamu godok lainnya.
Ternyata tanaman sambiloto (Andrographis paniculata Nees), yang mendapat julukan si raja pahit (the king of bitter), bisa membantu untuk penyembuhan pasien tuberculosis (TBC). Hal ini berdasarkan hasil penelitian terbaru dari Fakultas Kedokteran - Farmasi Universitas Airlangga, bahwa tanaman tersebut bisa mematikan kuman penyebab TBC yaitu mycobacterium.
Menurut DR dra Aty Wydyawaruyabti MSi Apr. (anggota tim peneliti), bagian daun dan batang sambiloto cukup ampuh untuk membantu penyembuhan bagi pasien penyakit TB. Beliau mengatakan bahwa sudah meneliti khasiat daun sambiloto sejak tahun 1992. Saat itu fokus penelitian sambiloto untuk penyembuhan penyakit malaria. Tahun 1993, beliau bekerja sama dengan Fakultas Kedokteran untuk meneliti manfaat tanaman yang rasanya pahit ini untuk penyembuhan penyakit TB. Ternyata hasilnya cukup bagus, sambiloto bertindak sebagai imuno stimulan yang mempercepat penyembuhan pasien TB.
Ditambahkan, efek samping mengkonsumsi sambiloto relatif tidak ada. Untuk mengkonsumsinya, agar diberi jeda waktu sekitar 2 - 3 jam, setelah atau sebelum minum minum obat dari dokter.
Untuk yang tidak tahan pahit dan merasa repot untuk menggodoknya, saat ini, telah tersedia pula ekstrak sambiloto dalam bentuk pil.
